Riveters Take Center Stage in Home-Opening Weekend

October 17, 2018 - Premier Hockey Federation (PHF)
Metropolitan Riveters News Release

The Metropolitan Riveters may be winless this season, but they have yet to play a game at home in front of their loud, passionate fans, who are some of the most dedicated in the league. When they finally make their home debuts as defending Isobel Cup champions on October 20 at the Prudential Center in Newark, not only will they unveil their championship banner, but they will also reignite their love affair with some of the best fans in the NWHL.

The Rivs will be looking to avenge a pair of losses to the Whitecaps in Minnesota's home-opening weekend two weeks ago, as the Whitecaps come to town Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Prudential Center and Sunday at 3 p.m. next door at Barnabas Health Hockey House.

Those in attendance at Saturday's game at the Prudential Center will receive a voucher for not one, but two (2!) tickets to a game showcasing one of the most exciting teams in the NHL - the New Jersey Devils, who at 4-0-0 are the league's only undefeated team. The first 1,000 fans will also receive a mini, replica banner commemorating the Rivs' Isobel Cup championship. Tickets are available at NWHL.zone/tickets.

This will be the second time in as many years that the Riveters will kick off their eight-game home schedule on the Prudential Center ice, with the remaining seven games taking place at the adjacent Barnabas Health Hockey House - where the banner will be hung the following day in the second of two games against the Minnesota Whitecaps.

The first of the two games vs. the Whitecaps will be the first opportunity for the home fans to see gold medalist Amanda Kessel make her return to New Jersey in Riveters' red, with the potential to score her first home goal as a Riveter; all five of Kessel's goals during her NWHL career have come on the road. Kessel has a goal and an assist on the season so far.

As always, after every home game - win or lose - you can meet the players on the team: get autographs, take pictures with them, and chat with them.

The Riveters are ramped up to kick off their home schedule and look to find the win column, as new captain Michelle Picard, fan favorite Rebecca Russo, playoff MVP Katie Fitzgerald and their teammates attempt to make history again in the NWHL.
