Metropolitan Riveters News Release

Kate Leary, who led the Boston Blades in scoring in her two seasons in the CWHL, has signed with the Metropolitan Riveters for the 2019-20 season. The forward joins the NWHL after leading the SWHL (Swiss Hockey League) in scoring last season.

"I jumped at the chance to play pro hockey back in the U.S. in such a great league," said Leary. "I can't wait to get started with the Riveters."

A New Hampshire native, Leary was a prodigal scorer in her high school hockey career. She piled up 340 points in 100 games at the Governor's Academy in Byfield, Mass. before attending Boston College. Leary scored 42 goals and earned 43 assists in 149 seasons with the Eagles, scoring 10 or more goals in her final three seasons.

She turned pro in 2016-17 with the Boston Blades and led her team in goals (10) and points (16) in her rookie season. Leary repeated the feat in the 2017-18 season with a 16-point campaign in which she had a direct role in 41.46 percent of her team's total offense.

Last season, Leary led the SWHL with 33 goals in 20 games. She also picked up 16 assists and finished third in the league in points. Thanks to her unrivaled goal-scoring prowess, Lugano won the SWHL championship after going 18-1-1 in the regular season. The 33 goals that Leary scored last season was the fourth-highest total in over a decade of Swiss pro women's hockey.

In addition to playing for the Riveters, Leary is the head coach of the Walpole Express Women's Junior Team.

The Riveters kick off the season on Oct. 5 with a home game against the Boston Pride. Tickets are available now at NWHL.zone/tickets.
