Metropolitan Riveters News Release
The Metropolitan Riveters have signed puck-moving defender Lexi Slattery, who completed her collegiate career with two years at St. Cloud State after transferring from Providence. Slattery played pro in the 2016-17 season with IF Sundvall/Timra of the Swedish League.
"This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play in the NWHL," said Slattery, 24. "I'm excited for the chance to play at the next level with some of the best players out there, and it's an honor to be able to join such a strong organization as the Riveters. Not only is it an exciting time to be a part of the league as it grows, but it is also an important time for the top-level players to continue to join the NWHL and develop it.
"Growing up, this wasn't even a possibility, so to be a part of something so big and monumental is really special. Girls can grow up aspiring to do something that we never thought we could, and that's powerful and means a lot to me. I have a really big love for the game."
In her senior season at St. Cloud - where she played with Riveters all-star goaltender Katie Fitzgerald - Slattery had 5 goals and 10 assists for 15 points in 35 games. Over her four seasons, split between Providence and St. Cloud, the Minnesota native was 11-33-44 in 125 games.
In her one season in the Swedish League, the 5-6 defender had one goal and 9 assists in 22 games.
"I consider myself an offensive defenseman who likes to get in the action when I can and join the rush," said Slattery. "I hope to bring good energy and a competitive nature to the team. I hope to add to the depth of the team and show my passion for the game on and off the ice."
