
Riveters Join NWFA

Nashville TN-The Wisconsin Riveters have been issued a license from the National Women's Football Association (NWFA) to operate a team in the league.. The Riveters will begin regular season play in the 2004 season. With over 37 teams, the NWFA is the largest full contact women's football league in the world. The Riveters are located in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Holly Barrett has been the owner of the team for over three years. The team played in WPFL until problems with WPFL management could not be resolved.. The Riveters decided to join the NWFA due to the league's full time organization and amazing expansion "The Riveters decided to make the move to the NWFA because we see the NWFA as the premier league for women's football," states Barrett. "The NWFA has a proven track record of dramatic growth in the past three years and we feel it's the best league on the planet for women who want to play full contact football and a great place for the Riveters to play," adds Barrett.
The Riveters will hold tryouts on Saturday and Sunday, April 26-27 at Nash Park in Kenosha. Tryouts will run from 9:00am -2:00pm. All participants must have their own health insurance and pay a one time $35.00 tryout fee. The Riveters will host more tryouts during May. The National Women's Football Association kicked off its third season on April 12 with 29 teams competing for the 2003 Championship. The league has sold 7 licenses for 2004. In addition to the Riveters, the new teams that have been granted licenses for 2004 include: Shoals SmasHers (AL), Roanoke Revenge (TX), Evansville Express (IN). Denton Stampede (TX), Dallas (TX), Austin Outlaws (TX).
In addition to adding new teams for the 2004 season, the NWFA has inked a five year TV deal with the new Football Network. "We're pretty happy about the growth and expansion of our league and the sport of women's full contact football. And, we're really pleased to see our business plan work so well. The Riveters, who are an experienced team, will be a great addition to our Great Lakes Division," states NWFA CEO, Catherine Masters.
