Riveters' All-Star Kendall Cornine Is First Player to Sign Contract for the 2020-21 NWHL Season

BROOKLYN - Metropolitan Riveters All-Star forward Kendall Cornine has signed a contract to return to the team next season. In doing so, Cornine becomes the first player to commit to playing in the NWHL in the league's sixth season in 2020-21.
"This year was by far my favorite year of hockey," said Cornine, a New Jersey native. "I couldn't have asked for better teammates, coaches, and staff. The NWHL has given me an opportunity to fall back in love with the game and fulfill my dream of playing professional hockey. Coming back to the Rivs next season is a decision I didn't need to think twice about, and I look forward to continuing my future as a Riveter."
Cornine, 23, was one of the league's standout newcomers in the 2019-20 season. She had 13 goals and 11 assists for 24 points in 24 regular season games, finishing third on the Riveters in scoring and tied for second in goals. She also led the team in shots on goal (113), shorthanded points (2), faceoff wins (305) and faceoff percentage (53.6).
The sixth overall pick of the 2018 NWHL Draft out of RIT, Cornine was named a VEDA NWHL Player of the Week on Dec. 10. On Feb. 29, she became the youngest player in NWHL history to score 13 goals in a season.
Cornine is RIT's all-time leading scorer at the NCAA D-1 level, finishing her career with 64 points (38-26-64) in 140 games. She was RIT's captain and earned CHA All-Academic Team honors in her junior and senior seasons.
While at Morristown-Beard School, Cornine set the New Jersey High School all-time scoring record, posting 199 points (104-95-199) in 74 games and was named the state's High School Player of the Year in 2014 and 2015.
Besides playing for the Riveters, Cornine serves as a coach of both the boys' and girls' hockey teams at Morristown-Beard, and coach of the girls' lacrosse team. She is also a coach in the New Jersey Colonials youth hockey program.
