CARSON, California (Wednesday, August 19) - Phoenix Rising FC (6-1-1) won its fourth straight match today, 4-1, against LA Galaxy II at Dignity Health Sports Park. Solomon Asante assisted on two first-half goals before grabbing one of his own just before the final whistle. Rising plays again this Saturday, August 22 in Las Vegas against Lights FC (7:30 PM on CW61 Arizona & ESPN+).

Corey Whelan got the ball rolling in just the ninth minute, when he played the ball to Junior Flemmings, who was playing as a center forward for the first time this season. Flemmings shook his defender and was in alone on goal against LA 's Abaraham Romero. The goalkeeper came off his line and stood his ground before deflecting Flemming's shot with his right leg.

Jack Barmby, making his first start of the season, nearly gave the visitors a lead in the 17th minute. Joey Calistri set up the chance, winning the ball back deep in LA's defensive third, running to the end line, and centering a pass for Barmby. The midfielder hit a sharp pass, low towards the post but Romero got down to his left side to make a diving save.

The wide-open match continued into the 23rd minute, when Kevon Lambert won the ball back in Rising's third of the pitch, walked the ball up to midfield and released Flemmings in, one-on-one against Romero for a second time. Lambert's pass beat LA's offsides trap by mere inches. Flemmings collected the pass and cut inside, on his left foot, before slipping a low shot through the center of the six-yard box. The cutback beat Romero and the goalkeeper was unable to recover in time to keep the shot out of the back of the net as Rising took a 1-0 lead.

Santi Moar nearly made it 2-0 in the 30th minute when he ran at LA's right back, turned the corner, and slid a shot towards the back post. Romero did well to get a hand to the shot and the ball nipped the outside of the far post on its way out for a corner kick.

Coming out of the first-half water break, Asante grabbed his sixth assist of the season when he centered a pass for Moar. The streaking Spaniard was instantly in alone against Romero and beat the goalkeeper with a chip shot down the center of the six-yard box for his first goal in a Rising kit.

LA Galaxy II made three changes at the half and came out on the attack at the beginning of the second half. Los Dos' Augustine Williams had the best look for the home side. He got off a turning shot, hit low and directly at Rising goalkeeper Zac Lubin in the 59th minute. Lubin was in good position and easily smothered the shot.

Jordan Schweitzer opened his account for Rising FC in the 63rd minute to make it 3-0. Once again, it was Asante pulling the strings. The 2019 MVP played a low cross into a streaking Schweitzer, who used his first touch to nutmeg Romero and the ball slipped into the far side netting.

LA Galaxy pulled a goal back to make it 3-1 in the 70th minute when Jorge Hernández played a ball in-behind the Rising back line. Augustine Williams collected the pass after beating the offsides trap, ran to his right across the face of goal, and slipped a shot underneath Lubin to bring LA II with two goals.

Astante scored the 40th goal of his USL Championship career just before the final whistle. Lagos Kunga did the heavy lifting on the play, carrying the ball up from midfield, fighting off a defender and getting the ball to a wide-open Asante in the middle of the area. Asante picked out the corner of the goal to become only the second player in league history to score 40 goals and have 30 assists in his career.
