Bellingham Slam News Release
PORTLAND, Ore. - Bellingham Slam head coach earned his 100th career professional coaching victory as they defeated the Portland All-Stars, 115-75, at Cascade College on Sunday to wrap up a busy weekend of games.
The Slam (4-1) played the game on short rest after falling to the Vancouver Volcanoes, 118-108 in overtime, on Saturday night.
On Sunday, the Slam looked eager to rebound from their first loss of the season as they raced out to a 20-7 lead in the first five minutes of the game.
With the Slam leading 52-41 at intermission, the All-Stars got the deficit down to eight on a opening-half three-pointer, but after that it was all Slam. The Slam went up by 29, at 89-60, on a jumper by Jacob Stevenson with a minute left in the third quarter.
With Bellingham's reserves playing the fourth quarter, the All-Stars still had no answers for the Slam as they were held to just 12 points in the quarter while Bellingham built up their lead to 40 on three different occasions.
Stevenson led five Slam players in double figures with 19 points, while rookies Blake Poole and Michael Duty had perhaps their best games thus far for the Slam. Both posted double-doubles, with Poole recording 15 points and 15 rebounds, while Duty finished with 13 and 11.
With the victory, Ridnour's all-time coaching record with the Slam stands at 100-43.
The Slam return home for a pair of games this weekend, on Friday against the West Coast Hotshots in a special game at Lynden High School, and then on Saturday versus the Olympia Reign back at Whatcom Pavilion. Tip-off for both games is set for 7 p.m.
