Phoenix Rising FC News Release

PHOENIX - Phoenix Rising Football Club head coach Rick Schantz was named the USL Championship Coach of the Year the league announced today. It's the first time in club history a head coach has received the honor. In his first full season as the head coach, Schantz led his team to the 2019 USL Regular Season Title.

"This is an amazing honor considering how many fantastic coaches there are in USL Championship," Schantz said. "I'm humbled but I know that this award is truly a team award. This would not have been possible without the players, support staff, assistant coaches, front office, amazing owners, and the best fans in the league. I am thankful to lead this club and strive every day to make our community proud."

Schantz followed up his 2018 USL Western Conference Title by leading the club to a historic run through the 2019 regular season. On the way to a regular-season title, the club set the league record for most wins (24) and most points (89) in a single season.

But the record that received the most attention during the season was Phoenix Rising's 20-match winning streak. Beginning with a 3-1 win over Rio Grande Valley on May 10th, the team went four months without a loss or a draw, shattering the previous league record (10 wins) and setting the North American modern-era outdoor professional record in the process. The streak's final win came on September 14th, a 4-1 win over LA Galaxy II.

In addition to breaking club and league records for wins and points in a single season, Schantz also became the club's career wins leader with 36 wins. His career regular-season record stands at 36-10-9.

Fans can lock in their seats to watch Schantz and his 2020 squad by becoming a 2020 season member for as little as $15 per match. To purchase a 12-month plan, head to PHXRisingFC.com. To speak directly with a Phoenix Rising rep, call or text 623.594.9606.
