RHP Barnard Named North American League Pitcher of the Year
October 11, 2011 - North American League (NAmL) News Release
(San Ramon, CA. October 11, 2011) The North American League announced today that San Angelo Colts right handed pitcher Chandler Barnard has been selected as the NAL Pitcher of the Year. Barnard led the league with 12 wins and was second in the league with an ERA of 3.25. In addition, Barnard recorded 98 strikeouts and walked just 25 hitters through 113.2 innings pitched. His 113.2 IP led the league along with fellow Colts' starter Logan Williamson. Barnard's Colts finished atop the NAL's Southern Division with a regular season record of 52-36, but fell in the first round of the playoffs to the Rio Grande Valley White Wings.
Chandler Barnard, 25, went undrafted following his college career at Trinity College. In 2008, Barnard made his professional debut pitching primarily in relief for the Worcester Tornadoes in the Can-Am League. 2009 marked Barnard's first year with the San Angelo Colts as he started 15 games and finished with a 9-4 record and a 3.36 ERA. In 2010, Barnard was traded from the Colts to the Shreveport-Bossier Captains of the American Association midway through the season, before returning to San Angelo for 2011. The 5'11, 185 pound Barnard proved that he can be a very effective starting pitcher, even at hitter-friendly Foster Field in San Angelo.
The North American League will continue to announce the 2011 awards winners, with the Rookie of the Year announcement coming tomorrow, October 12th.
