Renegades Re-sign with Tampa Bay Rays

FISHKILL, N.Y. (September 8, 2008) - The Hudson Valley Renegades are excited to announce that we have signed a two-year Player Development contract with the Tampa Bay Rays to remain their short-season A team through the 2010 season.
The Renegades have been the only short-season A team for the Tampa Bay Rays. The Renegades started this 13 year long relationship during the 1996 season when the Renegades played home to both the Texas Rangers and the Devil Rays young talent.
Through the 13 years the Renegades have been affiliated with the Tampa Bay Rays the Hudson Valley has been lucky enough to witness some of baseballs up and coming stars and some great baseball. Dutchess Stadium has played home to a New York-Penn League Championship in 1999, seen major league All-Star Josh Hamilton wearing a Renegades jersey (twice, 1999 and 2006) and the Rays All-Star rookie Evan Longoria.
Throughout the Renegades 15 year history (13 of those years with Tampa Bay) fans have seen numerous ex-Renegades grace major league ballparks. Besides the two players mentioned above, other standout names that have made it to the big leagues are Kevin Brown (the first Renegade to make it to the big leagues), Scott Posednik (the only ex-Renegade to win a World Series), Ryan Dempster, Craig Monroe, Jared Sandberg (current Renegades Hitting Coach) and Doug Waechter to name a few.
"The Rays have built one of the best minor league systems in all of baseball," said General Manager Eben Yager. "We are extremely proud and excited to be affiliated with such a classy organization as the Tampa Bay Rays."
The Rays have proven themselves as one of the premier teams in the major leagues this year. In 2007 the Rays posted a 66-96 record and thanks to the young talent the Rays have brought through their farm system they have posted an 85-56 record this year which is good enough for first in the American League East division.
We here at the Renegades are extremely excited that we will continue to be home to many of the Rays young talent for the next two seasons.
