Redskins' Bramlet, Browns' Barclay And Hamburg's Gibson Named League Players Of Week

May 8, 2007 - National Football League Europa (NFLE) News Release

Quarterback CASEY BRAMLET of the Washington Redskins, kick returner CHRIS BARCLAY of the Cleveland Browns, and defensive tackle GARY GIBSON of the Hamburg Sea Devils are the NFL Europa League Offensive, Special Teams and Defensive Players of the Week for games played the fourth week of the 2007 season (May 5-6), the league announced today.

Bramlet, currently in his second season with Hamburg, completed 18 of 27 passes for 220 yards, three touchdowns and one interception (113.2 passer rating) in the Sea Devils' 34-9 win over the Rhein Fire.

"Casey is a very productive quarterback, and he had a very productive day," said Hamburg head coach VINCE MARTINO. "He managed the offense perfectly and really helped us keep our rhythm for the whole game."

Bramlet has completed a league-high 64.4 percent of his passes this season for 734 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions. He currently ranks second among all NFL Europa quarterbacks in passer rating (95.7).

Barclay, a Cleveland Browns-allocated running back, was named Special Teams Player of the Week for his efforts during the Berlin Thunder's 31-28 victory over the Cologne Centurions. He returned five kickoffs for 180 yards and scored on a 99-yard return to spark the Thunder's 21-point comeback.

"That return made a big difference - it was like we woke up," said Thunder head coach JOHN ALLEN. "Chris provided a huge spark for our football team."

Barclay, who also started at running back, leads NFL Europa with 628 combined yards (184 rushing, 40 receiving, 404 kickoff returns).

Gibson, who earned Defensive Player of the Week honors, was the defensive catalyst for the Hamburg defense, which limited Rhein to 198 yards on offense and nine points. A Rutgers product, Gibson amassed four tackles, three sacks for 24 yards, two quarterback hurries and forced a fumble.

English wide receiver SCOTT McCREADY was named National Player of the Week for the second time this season (Week 1). McCready, who notched the 200th reception of his NFL Europa career, caught eight passes for 99 yards against the Fire, including a 10-yard touchdown from Bramlet.

A six-year veteran, McCready is only the second player in NFLEL history to record 200 career receptions. He needs an additional 53 catches to surpass former Frankfurt Galaxy wide receiver Mario Bailey as the all-time league leader (252).
