Oklahoma City Comets News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY - For the fourth straight year, the Oklahoma City RedHawks and The Oklahoman will host open auditions to sing the National Anthem at RedHawks games. The Oklahoman/Oklahoma City RedHawks National Anthem Tryouts will be held Saturday, March 8 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the center court at Penn Square Mall.
Winners will perform at RedHawks games throughout the season, with the grand prize winner performing at the 2014 home opener on Friday, April 11 against the New Orleans Zephyrs.
"We've had an incredible response to this event in the past and we expect nothing different this time around," RedHawks President/General Manager Michael Byrnes said. "We have many talented performers in the metro area, and we can't wait to select the best of the best to sing at RedHawks games."
Competition is open to the general public and registration is currently available at okcredhawks.com. Only the first 200 people to register online will have a guaranteed audition. Over the past few years, registration slots were completely filled well in advance of the event.
Those who do not register online will have a chance to audition on a standby basis. If the tryouts run ahead of schedule, or if a performer does not show up to their scheduled time, those in the standby line will be chosen to audition. Standby performers will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis and are encouraged to arrive early.
The judging panel will consist of editors and columnists from The Oklahoman, city officials, and community leaders. Winners will be chosen based on voice quality, creative style, and stage presence.
