MEMPHIS, TN - Memphis rallied late and claimed a 3-2 victory in 11 innings in front of the season's largest crowd of 14,182 Saturday night at AutoZone Park.
The Redbirds rallied for a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to tie the game on Donovan Solano's two-run single. Memphis loaded the bases in the ninth and stranded a runner at second in the 10th inning, but Nick Stavinoha played the hero with a game-winning single to left field in the bottom of the 11th inning. Stavinoha and Solano each finished the night with two hits and Brett Wallace led all players with three hits. Jason Smith gave Round Rock the lead early with his second home run of the year, a solo blast in the second inning.
Redbirds reliever Matt Scherer picked up the victory, striking out the side in his one inning of work. Memphis starter Adam Ottavino walked six and struck out six in seven innings of work allowing two runs on four hits. Round Rock reliever Josh Muecke took the loss giving up the winning run in the 11th inning. Express starter Jeremy Johnson turned in 6.2 scoreless innings scattering five hits and fanning five.
The âBirds send Clayton Mortensen to the hill tomorrow afternoon with game time scheduled for 1:35 p.m.
