WHAT THE DOCTOR ORDERED:
The Rebels are making their way to Odenton, MD to face the last place team in the East. The Black Bears have been struggling lately going 1-8-1 in their past ten games. They are also on a seven-game losing streak (0-6-1). The newest team in the NAHL had high hopes of reaching a playoff spot in their first season but they currently sit nine points out of a playoff spot with ten games left to go. This will also be the third-straight week at home for the Black Bears and they have been swept for the past three weekends, they have also been swept 12 times this season, three of those coming at the hands of the Rebels. While Jamestown was only able to put up one goal last weekend against Northeast, if there is a time to turn things around it will most certainly be this weekend. The Rebels only losses to Maryland came while they were at the Piney Orchard Ice Arena, but both required extra hockey.
DISCIPLINE IS KEY:
The Rebels are the fourth least penalized team in the league with 692 PIMS. Whereas Maryland is the fourth most penalized team in the league with 1057 PIMS. Since Maryland takes a plethora of penalties each game it has resulted in them having the third worst penalty-kill percentage in the NAHL at 74.9%. Due in part to their physical behavior it has resulted in them giving up the most power-play goals in the league at 64 and on top of that they have been shorthanded 255 times this season (league high). The Rebels power play is ranked 17th among all NAHL teams and this weekend they could see it rise if they capitalize on their man-advantages.
GOALIES:
Ryan Keane is still the number one goalie in the league with a 1.88 goals-against-average and has a save percentage of .923%. He has an overall record of 20-9-1 with three shutouts. His 20 wins puts him tied for fourth most by a goalie this season. For the Black Bears they only have one net-minder with more than 11 games played and that is David Tomeo. His overall record is 9-18-3-2 and has one shutout. His 18 losses are second most among goalies this season. Tomeo only has one win in his last eight appearances and it came all the way back on January 5th.
PLAYERS TO WATCH:
REBELS (F: #22 - Jim Glynn)
Glynn ended 2018 by setting a new franchise record point streak at 12 (4g-11a). Since the new year he has played in nine games and has tallied six points (1g-5a). He is currently tied for third in points with (6g-18a). Glynn has played in eight games against the Black Bears picking up (2g-5a). He also just celebrated his 19th birthday this past Sunday and is looking for two belated birthday gifts.
BLACK BEARS (F: #8 - Jonathan Young)
Young is currently tied for second on his team in scoring (8g-21a). He has played in all ten games against the Rebels but has only been able to get on the score sheet for two of those contests (2a). The Merrimack College commit has been red hot lately recording at least a point in all but two of his last 13 games played (4g-13a). While he has only played 38 out of 50 games for the Black Bears, Young has played three games in the USHL with the Youngstown Phantoms.
