October 18, 2012 - Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL)
Real Phoenix News Release

Former Mexican Internationals Luis "El Matador" Hernandez and Germán Villa will lead the Stars of Mexico against Real Phoenix who will be playing their first game in team history.

Hernandez and Villa have a combined 153 caps for the Mexican senior national team. Real Phoenix CEO Rosario Lopez sees this as a great opportunity for his team to gain some valuable experience saying "we are very excited to play the Stars of Mexico on Saturday night, it will give us a great test to see where our team is at."

Real Phoenix may not have the pedigree that the Stars of Mexico have, but veteran professional players Greg Veatch and Randy Soderman of Real Phoenix are expected to provide leadership and stability to the young expansion team.

Veatch played in the Western Soccer League and American Professional Soccer League where he suited up for 21 games for the Seattle Sounders en route to winning the championship in 1996.

Soderman has over 12 years of professional experience being named to All-Star Teams and being awarded Defender of the Year.

Real Phoenix GM Mike Cudmore spoke very highly of the veterans saying, "Randy brings years of experience, every team he has played on has made the playoffs, the same with Greg Veatch, he has played all over they are going to bring high quality experience to this team."

Along with veteran leadership Real Phoenix held open tryouts for a month that brought out the best in Phoenix talent that featured former college and professional players.

Luis Hernandez was an icon of the Mexican National Team becoming the highest goal scorer in World Cup history. In a career that lasted from 1990-2005 he made 87 appearances for the Mexican National Team scoring 35 goals. He also played in the top leagues in Mexico, Argentina and played 2 season for the LA Galaxy.

Germán Villa was a fixture for Club America, making 434 appearances from 1991 to 2009. The defensive midfielder also represented Mexico 66 times.

The Stars of Mexico also feature some of the top talent in Mexican futbol rapido. Eduardo "Vaquero" Velez, currently a top midfielder with the San Diego Sockers, tied for the PASL scoring lead in 2010-11 with 52 points in 14 games. Edgar Quintin Vazquez and Rodrigo Flores led Guerreros La Raza Guadalajara to back-to-back appearances in the North American Championships and just won the Liga Mexicana Futbol Rapido championship in June.

"It's going to be a great night for soccer fans in Phoenix to see players who have played at the highest levels in the world," CEO Rosario Lopez said. "We want everyone to attend and get excited for professional soccer in the valley."

Tickets will be available for purchase at the door and will be $20 for adults and $10 for youth (ages 10 and younger)
