Real Monarchs News Release
HERRIMAN, Utah - Real Monarchs have acquired midfielder Christopher Bermudez from USL League One side Greenville Triumph FC pending league and federation approval, the club announced today. The terms of his signing have not been disclosed.
"Chris was a player that we identified as one to watch going into the 2019 campaign," said Real Monarchs Assistant General Manager Tim Weaver. "We monitored him during the 2019 season with Greenville and identified him as one we thought could make an impact at the USL Championship level. He is a young, dynamic winger that loves to create chances. He was top 10 in chances created in League One, and we will look for him to bring those creative abilities to the Monarchs. We're ecstatic to watch Chris have an impact on the field with the Monarchs and continue his development as a player from League One to the USL Championship."
Bermudez, 20, played his youth career with the New York Red Bulls Academy from 2015 to 2017 before joining the youth academy of Liga MX club Pachuca where he spent two years. The New Jersey native earned his first professional contract with Greenville Triumph FC during its inaugural League One campaign where he made 22 appearances and recorded two goals, helping lift the team to an appearance in the USL League One Final.
Real Monarchs finished the 2019 season having won its first USL Championship Title after finishing 4th in the Western Conference at 16-10-8 (56 points). The Monarchs begins their title defense on the road against San Antonio FC on March 7 before returning to Zions Bank Stadium to begin its Four-Corners Cup defense against Phoenix Rising FC on Saturday, March 14, at 3:00 p.m. MT.
