Rattlers Move to No. 2 in Latest AFL Power Rankings
June 23, 2015 - Arena Football League (AFL) News Release
LAS VEGAS - The Arizona Rattlers (10-2) continued to climb the AFL Power Rankings this week, moving up to No. 2 after a dominating 55-35 victory over the South Division-leading Orlando Predators (7-6) in Week 13. The three-time defending ArenaBowl champions will ride a six-game winning streak into their Week 14 matchup with the LA KISS (2-10). Kickoff is set for 10:00 p.m. ET Saturday night on ESPN3.
The San Jose SaberCats (12-1) remained the undisputed No. 1 in the AFL Power Rankings after dispatching of the Las Vegas Outlaws (4-8), 63-31, in Week 13. San Jose has already clinched the Pacific Division championship and a playoff berth, but will look to keep rolling in order to fend off the Rattlers for home field advantage throughout the postseason. That quest continues this Friday when the SaberCats travel north for a divisional matchup with the Spokane Shock (4-8). Kickoff is set for 10:00 p.m. ET on ESPN3.
Falling one spot to No. 3 in this week's AFL Power Rankings are the Philadelphia Soul (11-2), who bounced back from a Week 12 loss to Orlando by outlasting the LA KISS, 56-48, in Week 13. The Soul can clinch their fourth straight trip to the playoffs with a win over the Tampa Bay Storm (6-6) this week. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET Friday night on ESPN3.
Despite suffering a heartbreaking 48-52 loss to the Storm in the final seconds of regulation last week, the Cleveland Gladiators (7-6) remained in the No. 4 spot of the latest AFL Power Rankings. The defending American Conference champions are still in the heat of the playoff race; however, with Philadelphia continuing to distance themselves in the East Division and the South Division shaping up to be as competitive as any in Arena Football, Cleveland will need to finish strong in order to ensure a second straight trip to the postseason.
In the same boat as the Gladiators are their Week 14 opponents, the Jacksonville Sharks (6-6), who moved up one spot to No. 5 in the latest AFL Power Rankings. After a week of rest on their bye, the Sharks return home to host Cleveland in a pivotal American Conference matchup between playoff contenders. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. ET Saturday night on CBS Sports Network.
The AFL Power Rankings are calculated on ArenaFootball.com using a scoring system based on winning percentage, strength of schedule, scoring percentage, and win-streak. This week's complete AFL Power Rankings are listed below.
