Traverse City North Stars News Release

MARQUETTE - There is still plenty of time for the Traverse City North Stars to skate to the NAHL North Division title, but their margin for error got a little bit smaller on Saturday as the Marquette Rangers posted a 3-2 victory at Lakeview Arena, sweeping a weekend series and pushing their lead over second-place TC to four points.

The Rangers broke a pair of second period ties with a two goals wrapped around a score for the visitors, and improved to 31-18-1 while the Stars dropped to 27-18-5. Both teams have clinched playoff berths, and meet four more time over the final eight regular season games.

Eric McLintock (Traverse City, MI/TC North Stars) put Traverse City on top 12:15 into the contest with his 19th goal of the season, but Bobby Bodette evened things up less than two minutes later, and Garrett Ladd gave Marquette the lead with an unassisted effort just over five minutes into the second period. Dan Radke (Orinda, CA/TC North Stars/Lake Superior St.) made it 2-2 with a power play goal at 8:57, but Tanner Kero levied his NAHL-best 30th goal of the season with 3:50 to go before the second intermission to provide what turned out to be the game-winner.

Drew Strandberg (Thunder Bay, ONT/Thunder Bay SIJHL) and Marquette keeper Kevin Kissaw turned aside all scoring chances in the third period, and the hosts held on for a one-goal win for the second straight night. Strandberg stopped 31 shots, while Kissaw rebuffed 24.

Kyle Jean (Sault Ste. Marie, MI/TC North Stars/Lake Superior St.) and Chris Salomone (Homer Glen, IL/TC North Stars) assisted on McLintock's goal, while Nick Shkreli (Romeo, MI/Mahoning Valley NAHL) and Garrett Thompson (Traverse City, MI/TC North Stars) drew helpers on Radke's 16th marker of the campaign.

The teams will meet up again in a three-game series at Centre ICE on March 19-21, with the season series wrapping back at Lakeview on March 25. Six of the Stars' final eight regular season games are at home, including a pair of Wednesday affairs - March 10 against Alpena and on St. Patrick's Day (March 17) versus Motor City.
