For the Reading Railers and the Arkansas Impact, their journey through the Premier Basketball League playoffs continues for another day, as both teams won their second-round playoff matchups Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at Attack Athletics in Chicago.
In the opening game of the playoff doubleheader, the Railers stayed strong and defeated the Maryland Nighthawks 104-96, continuing Reading's unbeaten streak with their fifth victory over their Eastern Division rivals. Lennox McCoy put together a strong game for the Railers, with 21 points and six assists, while Jared Mills finished with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Aaron Williams manufactured a double-double with 11 points and a team-high 13 rebounds. For Maryland, Randy Gill set a PBL playoff record with 37 points, including hitting 8 three-pointers, also the most treys ever scored in a PBL playoff match. With the win, the Railers now earn a game Thursday night against the Eastern Division regular season champion Rochester Razorsharks; the matchup will take place at 7:00 Eastern time at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, N.Y.
The afternoon matchup saw the Arkansas Impact collide with the Rockford Fury. At one point in the game, Arkansas held a 17-point lead over the Fury. Rockford clawed their way back in the match, but could not get past the Impact, losing 112-108. Nick Tuggle's 29 points were tops for the Little Rock crew; Tyrone Davis added 20 points and Gabe Feagin put 15 on the board. Ameer Watts had a strong game for Rockford, with 26 points and a trio of 3-pointers; Geoff Wing's 21 points were augmented with 5 treys; Nick Michael and Rashi Johnson had 16 and 15 points, respectively. The Impact's next match will be against the Western Division champion Quad Cities Riverhawks Thursday night at Black Hawk College in Moline, Ill.
The winners of the Thursday matches will play for the inaugural Premier Basketball League championship on March 30, 2008 at a site to be determined.
