January 5, 2015 - Major League Lacrosse (MLL) News Release
BOSTON (January 5, 2015) - The Boston Cannons and New York Lizards have executed a trade that sends two-time MLL MVP midfielder Paul Rabil and midfielder Mike Stone to New York in exchange for veteran midfielder Max Seibald, veteran defenseman Brian Karalunas, a first and second round 2016 Collegiate Draft pick, and a first round 2017 Collegiate Draft pick.
Boston trades Karalunas and a seventh round 2015 Collegiate Draft selection to the Ohio Machine in exchange for defenseman Chad Wiedmaier and a first round 2015 Collegiate Draft pick.
Drafted as the first overall pick by the Cannons in 2008, Rabil appeared in 81 games and amassed 354 points with 185 goals and 137 assists. The Johns Hopkins product has made a huge impact on the team, playing a monumental role in the Cannon's 2011 championship victory. In 2014, Rabil was a member of the silver medal FIL World Championship American team.
Originally drafted by Boston in the 2010 Supplemental Draft, Stone will enter his sixth season with the League. He has appeared in a total of 50 games, recording 62 goals and 16 assists while collecting 31 groundballs for the Cannons.
Seibald is entering his seventh season with the League. Originally selected by Denver as the second overall pick of the 2009 Collegiate Draft, Seibald was acquired by New York through a 2012 trade. The Cornell product appeared in 47 games, accounting for 103 groundballs and 107 points.
Drafted by Hamilton in 2012, Ohio acquired Wiedmaier trough a 2013 trade with the Nationals. In the span of his three year career, he has appeared in 34 games and totaled 59 groundballs.
A product of Villanova, Karalunas was drafted by the Lizards in the 2011 Collegiate Draft. During his four year tenure he has collected 135 groundballs and scored six points. In 2014 he was one of only three Lizards players to appear in all of the regular season games.
The Cannons, Lizards and Machine, as well as the other MLL teams now turn their attention of the 2015 Collegiate Draft on Friday, January 23 at 8:30 pm., where teams will look to strengthen their rosters in preparation for the 2015 season.
