Schaumburg Flyers News Release

Schaumburg, IL - In one summer R.J. Swindle went from the Schaumburg Flyers to a step away from the New York Yankees. Swindle made five starts for Schaumburg at the beginning of 2006 before his contract was purchased by the Yankees organization and he was sent to the Low A Charleston RiverDogs. The lefty dominated in Charleston posting a 0.61 ERA with a 4-2 record and two saves. At the end of the season he was promoted all the way up to the AAA Columbus Clippers and made his sole appearance on the final day of the season. He tossed two innings against the Toledo Mud Hens and earned his first save in AAA.

Six other former members of the Flyers family finished the season in organizational baseball.

Kenny Durost and Geoff McCallum join Swindle as the three players that left Schaumburg in 2006. Durost went from Schaumburg to Oakland affiliate Stockton. He posted a 4-1 record and a 4.09 ERA with the Ports before he returned to the Chicago area to join the Kane County Cougars' playoff run. Durost helped the Cougars to the Midwest League Championship Series and started game four of the M.L.C.S.

Geoff McCallum, Schaumburg's career leader in several offensive categories, finally earned another shot at the big leagues after three and half years with manager Andy McCauley and the Flyers. McCallum was hitting .305 with 15 stolen bases and was headed to the Northern League all-star game when he was signed by the Florida Marlins organization. McCallum finished the season with the Jupiter Hammerheads of the Florida State League and is hoping for an invitation to spring training.

Former Schaumburg slugger Mario Delgado is still hitting the ball hard, but for the Orioles organization. Delgado was among the leaders for the class A Frederick Keys with 68 hits, 11 homers and 49 RBI's.

Catcher C.J. Medlin played 49 games including some against former teammate Geoff McCallum with the Brevard County Manatees.

Evan Fahrner recorded 50 strikeouts in 51 innings for the Reading Phillies before he was traded to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats about an hour before the two teams began a three game series. Fahrner's 2006 combined ERA was 3.71.

Brad Ziegler split 2006 between AAA Sacramento and the AA Midland RockHounds in the Oakland organization. Ziegler was 9-6 with a 3.37 ERA for Midland. He was last with the Flyers in 2004.
