Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA- After a scoreless first inning, the Mavericks jumped out on Quakes starter Jeremy Thorne in the second. Carlos Peguero led off with a triple before Alex Liddi scored him with a sacrifice fly. Three straight hits, a single by Jamie McOwen and RBI doubles by Travis Scott and Edilio Colina gave the Mavs a 3-0 lead. With two outs, Tyson Gillies collected an RBI single to make it a 4-0 lead. The hit by McOwen extended his Cal League record hitting streak to 39.
With the score still 4-0 in the bottom of the fourth, the Quakes finally got on the scoreboard with a little help from the Mavericks defense. Starter Donnie Hume was throwing well, allowing just three hits until the 4th, but the Quakes bats woke up. With two outs, Efren Navarro singled to left and scored on a three base error by Carlos Peguero on a deep fly by Jay Brossman. Carlos Colmenares followed with an RBI single to bring the Quakes within two, 4-2.
The Quakes misfired on scoring opportunities in the 3rd, 5th and 6th, and failed to score runs to cut into the Mavericks lead.
Thorne went 7 innings for the Quakes, allowing the four runs in the second inning and scattered nine hits while striking out four. Taylor Wiliding came in for the 8th and allowed two runs on an RBI triple by Carlos Peguero and a sacrifice fly by Alex Liddi to give the Mavs a 6-2 lead.
The Quakes will finish their series with the Mavs Friday. Left hander Alexander Torres will start for the Quakes against right hander Nathan Adcock. Game time is scheduled for 7:35pm.
