Beauts Get In The Win Column

A Trio Of Third Period Goals Helps Buffalo Edge The Riveters

Beauts 3, Riveters 1

The Beauts won their first game in franchise history thanks to two third period goals from Devon Skeats and 27 saves by Brianne McLaughlin.

After a scoreless first, the Riveters took a 1-0 lead 14:32 into the second on a goal by Madison Packer. Skeats netted a pair within a five minute stretch during the final period, including the game-winner at the 12:00 mark. Hailey Browne added an empty-netter to cap the scoring.

Despite taking six penalties, New York outshot Buffalo 36-28. Nana Fujimoto left the game in the third period after a collision and was replaced by Jenny Scrivens.

Whale 4, Pride 3

In a scene eerily familiar to last week's 7-6 shootout victory, the Whale jumped out of the gate quickly, scoring two first period goals and the first four of the game. Then they nearly let it slip away.

Shiann Darkangelo scored the fastest goal in NWHL history just 0:37 seconds into the contest and her second tally midway through the game made it 3-0. 2010 Olympian Molly Engstrom added a fourth at the 14:18 mark of the second period, while Shannon Doyle netted a goal and an assist for Connecticut.

Boston would start to chip away at the deficit as time expired in the second on a goal by Rachel Llanes. The Pride would add two more on power play goals by Amanda Pelkey, her second in as many weeks, and Kacey Bellamy.

Boston would outshoot Connecticut 42-19. Jaimie Leonoff made 39 saves, including a penalty shot block of Llanes, for the win.
