Puerto Rico FC to Play Remaining Fall Season Games on U.S. Mainland
October 10, 2017 - North American Soccer League (NASL) News Release
NEW YORK - The North American Soccer League (NASL) announced Tuesday that Puerto Rico FC will play its remaining Fall Season games on the U.S. mainland while Puerto Rico continues its recovery efforts in the wake of Hurricane Maria.
NASL officials have been coordinating with Puerto Rico FC, along with other clubs from around the league, to identify alternate facilities for the Caribbean club's remaining home games, as well as hotel accommodations for the team on the U.S. mainland.
"Our thoughts are with the people of Puerto Rico as the island continues its recovery from Hurricane Maria," said NASL Interim Commissioner Rishi Sehgal. "We felt that it was necessary to move Puerto Rico FC's remaining home games off the island to allow the recovery efforts to focus solely on the needs of the Puerto Rican people. We look forward to bringing the joy and community created by the club back to Puerto Rico in the near future."
With stadium availability as the primary factor, two of the club's remaining home games will be played at opponent facilities, while another two have been moved to neutral sites in Florida.
