
PSL Rookie, Defender of the Year awards announced

TAMPA, FL â United Soccer Leagues announced Wednesday Pittsburgh's Said Ali and Wilmington's Tim Karalexis were named the 2004 Rookie and Defender of the Year, respectively, by the league's coaches and general managers.
After five seasons in the A-League, the Pittsburgh Riverhounds made a stunning debut in the PSL with a 17-2-1 record with a squad of many new faces, including the Rookie of the Year, Said Ali.
Ali finished third in the league in points (34) and tied for second in goals (15) in his first season in the league. The Canadian from Robert Morris University was named to the PSL Team of the Week eight times over the course of the season, earning Player of the Week once.
The Wilmington Hammerheads posted their sixth straight winning record (10-6-3) in 2004 with the league's fourth fewest goals allowed on the season (20). Defender of the Year Tim Karalexis was a key factor on the Hammerheads back line, playing in 16 games on the season.
The 2003 and 2004 All-League Team selection also helped lead the team to its championship appearances the last two seasons, winning the title last year. He saw action in 18 games each of the last two years and has three goals and three assists in three seasons. He was named to the Team of the Week four times in 2004.
