Pride Top SY Dawgs in Game Three

Published on August 2, 2016 under National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) News Release

Tallahassee, FL -The Pride started the month of August off with a win as they beat the Scrap Yard Dawgs 3-1. The Pride picked up their 32nd win of the season and widened the gap between them and the league's second place team.

The Dawgs struck first, scoring one in the top of the first. It looked as though the Pride might play an ugly game, starting things off by allowing an error, an infield single and a walk to load the bases. The run came in after former Pride player Madison Shipman hit a soft ground ball to shortstop Shelby Pendley and forced her to take the out at third, allowing a run to score. The Pride got the next two batters out, effectively ending the Scrap Yard offense for the remainder of the game.

The Pride picked up all three of their runs in the third inning. The first out of the inning came when Pendley hit a sacrifice fly ball to left field, allowing Megan Wiggins to tag up at third and score the third and final run of the inning. Wiggins and rookie Haylie McCleney also picked up RBIs in the third inning.

Chelsea Thomas pitched a good game, striking out more batters than she walked (5-2) and allowing just four hits over 5.0 innings pitched. Hannah Rogers came in the game as relief and allowed one hit in 2.0 innings pitched.

The series wraps up tomorrow, August 2, in Tallahassee. First pitch is set for 7:30 PM (ET).
