Premier Basketball League Welcomes Mid-Michigan Destroyers
October 7, 2008 - Premier Basketball League (PBL) News Release
(Chicago, IL)... The Premier Basketball League (PBL) announced the acceptance into the league of the Mid-Michigan Destroyers, an expansion team commencing play in the 2008-09 PBL season. The PBL has been working with the ownership group since the beginning of the year, and with the team's recent purchase of their own venue, the Destroyers solidified the dates needed to move forward with play for this season.
"We are proud to become members of the Premier Basketball League as their business plan was a match for the structure in a league we have been seeking," said Team President Jere Shockey. "Having recently purchased our own venue, having a team was the logical next step for what we are trying to build in Bay City."
"This creates a terrific on-court rivalry with Detroit and Battle Creek while becoming an excellent travel partner for many of our teams." commented PBL Chief Executive Officer Thomas E. Doyle. "Having an ownership group who is experienced in the business of basketball, with a keen understanding of our business model, made this ownership group a terrific match for the league."
The ownership group of the Destroyers recently purchased and renovated the 2000 seat historic St. Joe's Gymnasium in Bay City, Michigan. Here they have created the JJKN Hoops Training Center which is home to some of the top up and coming players in Michigan.
