TULSA - The Arena Football League announced today that the PITTSBURGH POWER has been awarded the 2011 Commissioner's Award. In the team's inaugural season in the AFL, the Power demonstrated loyalty and commitment that is necessary to prosper as a successful organization. The team did an outstanding job communicating with the Pittsburgh community, building the AFL and new Power brand.

Their presence was felt both on and off the field. In their first season, the team played a vital role in the community.

"The Shaner family, Lynn Swann and Pittsburgh's front office hit the ground running," Commissioner Jerry B. Kurz said. "Their marketing strategy, community involvement and commitment to the game of arena football went far from unnoticed."

During the 2011 AFL Awards Presentation, Swann accepted the award for the Power organization.

The Commissioner's Award was last presented in 2007, going to the Philadelphia Soul and Chicago Rush.
