Traverse City North Stars News Release
PORT HURON - The Port Huron Fighting Falcons scored a trio of first period goals on Wednesday at McMorran Arena en route to a 6-2 victory over the Traverse City North Stars in a battle of NAHL North Division foes.
Traverse City twice pared the Falcons' deficit to two with a pair of second period goals wrapped around a Port Huron tally, but could draw no closer as the Stars lost to Port Huron for the first time in the clubs' 14 all-time meetings.
After the hosts had staked themselves to a 3-0 edge through the first frame, the Stars came alive near with halfway point of the second, as Seth Adams (Big Rapids, MI/Big Rapids HS) potted his first junior goal at 9:20. Port Huron restored its three-goal advantage about five minutes later, but Jake Peacock (Traverse City, MI/Bay Reps HS) stuck home his first career marker with 2:34 left before the second intermission.
The Fighting Falcons dropped in a pair of empty-net goals in the final minute to make it a four-goal spread.
Recently-acquired Zach Nagelvoort (Holland, MI/Kalamazoo NAHL) made his first start in a Stars sweater, stopping 32 of 36 shots. It was the first game not backstopped by Kyle Laslo (Fenton, MI/Osoyoos KIJHL) in eight outings for Traverse City this season. Alexander Taulien (Crystal Lake, IL/TC North Stars NAHL) and Michal Toman (Slovakia/TC North Stars NAHL) assisted on Peacock's goal, while Adams' was an unassisted tally.
The North Stars (5-2-2) will return to Centre ICE Arena on Saturday for a one-game set, as the division-leading Michigan Warriors visit for a 7 p.m. face-off. The contest will feature the second installment of North Stars Broomball Challenge during the first intermission, and a free public post-game skate with the North Stars players. Fans will also have the chance to win a Great Wolf Lodge family suite with waterpark passes at every home game this season during the second period Chuck-a-Puck contest.
