PIFL Playoffs One Week Away
June 15, 2015 - Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) News Release
NASHVILLE, TN (June 15, 2015) - While seeding for the 2015 Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) playoffs remains unknown, three teams know they're in the dance while the last team will emerge on the season's final week.
One thing PIFL fans have grown accustomed to each year brings new excitement and new expectations for different teams. Parity is strong in the league in which now in its fourth season it will witness its fourth different number one seed. In each of the past two seasons the final spot will have been earned on the final week with this year's final spot being awarded to either Trenton or Lehigh Valley.
With one thing being certain, the road to the 2015 PIFL Champions Cup will have to run through Columbus. Winners of four straight overall as well as four straight at home, the Lions close out the regular season this weekend in Alabama knowing their future opponents will spend the final weekend jostling for playoff positioning.
The final week will allow the Lions to rest key starters like DB Damian Daniels who missed Saturday's game against Trenton with an arm injury. Over the past two seasons the Jungle has wreaked havoc on opponents with teams combining to go 2-10. It will mark the first home playoff game for Columbus since 2011, and in three PIFL seasons teams who earned the number one have combined to go 6-0.
By virtue of Lehigh Valley and Trenton both losing over this past weekend, Richmond and Nashville know they are officially in the dance. Who and where their first round opponent will be is another question. The Raiders control their own destiny, with a win they lock up the second seed and will host the first round of the playoffs. For the Venom to get home field for the first round, they will not only need to take care of the Freedom but also hope the Explosion can pull off the upset of Richmond.
The Nashville/Trenton game will have more than just seeding on the line. The Freedom face a win or go home matchup against the Venom, if they win they can officially book a trip to Richmond as the 3rd seed. Lose and fall victim to a tie-breaker scenario that will allow the idle Steelhawks to sneak into the playoffs as the 4th seed for the second consecutive year.
It will be another pulse pounding ending to another regular season that ultimately takes the final week to decide. For more information from all seven teams from the PIFL, stay tuned to www.proifl.com and let your voice heard follow the PIFL on Facebook and Twitter.
