June 19, 2012 - Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) News Release
KNOXVILLE, TN (June 19, 2012) - The Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) has named Louisiana Swashbucklers QB Chris Mayabb, Columbus Lions DB Ramon Broadway, and Columbus Lions K Trey Crum as the Week 13 Players of the Week.
Heading into Saturday's matchup against the Alabama Hammers, the PIFL's 3rd seed was there for the taking with the Swashbucklers in full control of their own destiny. Chris Mayabb (6'4 225, College of Sequoias), who previously started the season with the Hammers, got the start from under center in relief of Harrison who was unable to dress due to a prior obligation. Making his first start with the Swashbucklers since signing in late April, Mayabb completed 19 of 26 passes for 289 yards and 8 TD's in the Swashbucklers 75-70 victory over Alabama helping the club clinch the PIFL's 3rd seed earning him the PIFL's Week 13 Offensive Player of the Week.
During the 2012 season, defense has been the major question mark for the Columbus Lions, but on Saturday they got a huge lift from DB Ramon Broadway (5'9 180, Arkansas) who did a little bit of everything in Saturday's 76-63 victory over the Knoxville Nighthawks. Broadway reached the end-zone on two different occasions one of which by scooping up a fumble in the 2nd quarter returning it 45-yards for the score. Going into Saturday's game, Columbus stood as the only team in the PIFL without a defensive score. Broadway didn't stop there he also ran back the opening kickoff of the second half 47-yards while also picking up four tackles and recovered a blocked field goal earning him the Week 13 Defensive Player of the Week.
Columbus Lions K Trey Crum (5'7 180, Delta State) led all kickers in scoring in Week 13 going a perfect 10 for 10 in PAT attempts while also notching two field goals (22, 44). Despite playing in just five games this season, Crum managed to average 13 points per game with a PAT percentage of over 92%. Crum's 16 points aided him in earning the PIFL Special Teams Player of the Week nod for a third time. He previously won the award in Week 5 and 8.
PIFL Conference Semi-Finals get underway this Saturday June 23rd at 7:30 PM when the 2012 Division Champion Albany Panthers (10-2) host their in-state rivals the Columbus Lions (6-6). Then on Monday beginning at 7:00 PM ET the Richmond Raiders (10-2) will play in their first ever playoff game when they host the Louisiana Swashbucklers (6-6), a squad that is looking at making their sixth consecutive championship game appearance.
