
PIFL Names Players of the Week

NASHVILLE, TN (June 30, 2014) - The Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) announces that Columbus Lions QB Luke Halpin, Nashville Venom DB Corry Stewart, and Lehigh Valley Steelhawks K Michael Barnard have been recognized as the Week 14 Players of the Week. Flourishing rookie QB's are a bit of rarity in the indoor game, but Columbus QB Luke Halpin has been a key figure in the Lions current two-game winning streak. Two weeks ago, Halpin helped erase the club's seven game road losing streak defeating the defending champion Hammers and then on Saturday completed 18 of 25 passes for 204 yards and five touchdowns en route to the 69- 55 road win over Georgia to earn the Week 14 PIFL Offensive Player of the Week. After a one- year absence from the playoffs, Columbus will make their seventh playoff appearance in eight years this Saturday needing a road victory over the Venom to advance.
For the third consecutive week and fifth time overall, a member of the Nashville Venom defense earns the PIFL's weekly defensive award with the Week 14 honor going to DB Corry Stewart. Previously winning the award back in Week 2, Stewart earned the Zoombang.com award this week wrapping up a game-high nine tackles as well as picking up his ninth interception of the season and returning it 39-yards for a touchdown in the Venom's 64-48 win over Trenton. The victory ensures the road through the playoffs will go through Nashville, crucial considering in two season's home playoff teams are a combined 6-0.
