PIFL Names Players of the Week

NASHVILLE, TN (April 29, 2014) - The Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) announces that Columbus Lions QB Antwon Young, Trenton Freedom DB Jeffrey Morgan, and Lehigh Valley Steelhawks K Michael Barnhard are the PIFL Week 5 Players of the Week.
Behind the solid play of their quarterback and Week 5 Offensive Player of the Week winner Antwon Young, Columbus (3-2) remained perfect at home when they defeated the Georgia Fire (1-2) 63-41 on Saturday for the second time in three weeks. In the victory, Young completed 20 of 27 passes for 256 yards and five touchdowns adding another two scores from the ground. Through five games Young leads all other passers in touchdowns (30) and is the only QB to eclipse the 1,000 mark in yards with 1,273. In hopes of solving their road woes the Lions will have the next two weeks off before a two-game road swing with back-to-back inter-divisional meetings against Alabama and Nashville.
Despite falling in a losing effort to the still undefeated Lehigh Valley Steelhawks (3-0), it was certainly no fault of the Trenton Freedom (2-2) defense which held the Hawks offense to just three touchdowns. Trenton created two turnovers, one fumble recovery and an interception with both recorded by the Week 5 Zoombang Defensive Player of the Week LB Jeffrey Morgan.
Down the stretch the Freedom defense held Lehigh scoreless in three out of their last four drives but was unable to capitialize falling 42-36 in Lehigh for the second time this season.

The Steelhawks we're able to stay unblemished on Saturday thanks in large part to the league- leading 16 points for the week delivered from kicker Michael Barnhard. In the 42-36 victory over Trenton, Barnhard earned the Week 5 Vidswap.com Special Teams Player of the Week nod after nailing three Uno's, three field goals (49, 32, and 21) along with going a perfect 3 for 3 in PAT attempts. Michael's final seven points eventually served as Saturday's game winning points and his 49-yard field goal early in the 1st quarter is the longest successful attempt by a PIFL kicker this season.
