PIFL Announces Week 2 Rankings

March 22, 2012 - Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) News Release

KNOXVILLE, TN (March 22, 2012) - After the first full week of action from Professional Indoor Football League action, the Albany Panthers claim the inaugural top spot of the PIFL Power Rankings but face their first road challenge of this season this Saturday when they travel to Lake Charles, LA to take on the Swashbucklers.

Despite throwing for just 106 passing yards, Albany claims the top spot on this week PIFL Power Rankings due in large part to their stifling defensive win over Richmond. Led by Week 2 Defensive Player of the Week Corey Rue, the champion Panthers held the Raiders to just 28 points along with QB Antwon Young to 14 of 36 passing for 168 yards and just one passing TD.

Louisiana falls into second place after almost surrendering a 2nd half three touchdown lead to the Alabama Hammers. This Saturday when they host Albany, the Bucs will have their chance to take over the top spot but will have to look to past their almost 2nd half collapse. Defensive back Eric Jackson and company will have to come up with some key turnovers, much like they did in their 56-49 opening win over Alabama.

The Richmond Raiders and Columbus Lions rank third and fourth respectively as the Raiders fell to .500 for the first time this season due in large part to an offense that was unable to come up with the big play like they did in their season-opening 64-58 win over the Lions. Led by QB Randy Hippeard and his eight total touchdowns, the Lions barely escaped a 64-59 win over the expansion Knoxville Nighthawks this past Saturday. Early-on, Columbus has been suspect on defense already surrendering points of 64 and 59 respectively in their first two games.

Filling out the bottom two spots are the Knoxville Nighthawks and the Alabama Hammers. Knoxville should be riding full of confidence after narrowly coming away with a victory in their inaugural game. QB Tony Colston finished Saturday's loss completing 20 of 28 passes for 305 yards and eight total touchdowns. Helping overcome a three-touchdown deficit, QB Arvell Nelson and company were unable to complete the comeback of the Bucs throwing an interception on the potential game tying drive.
