Phoenix Rising FC News Release

PHOENIX (Jan. 22, 2019 ) - Tomorrow, Phoenix City Council members will vote on the future of Talking Stick Resort Arena and the Phoenix Suns. The proposed deal uses funds from a tourist tax on hotel rooms and rental cars within the city of Phoenix that was established for this purpose 30 years ago, and a significant investment from the Phoenix Suns to pay for much needed repairs to the arena with no costs passed on to Phoenix residents.

The arena has served more than 40 million guests during the past 27 years of operations. As the home to the Phoenix Suns, Phoenix Mercury, Arizona Rattlers, numerous youth sports, entertainment and cultural and community gatherings, the arena averages more than 300 events each year. In fact, it generates a direct annual economic impact of $182 million and nearly $13 million every year to support critical public services like police and fire protection within the city of Phoenix.

"At Phoenix Rising FC, we cannot imagine our community without Talking Stick Resort Arena, and we know firsthand the value of these professional sports teams for tourism and economic development in the Greater Phoenix area," said Phoenix Rising FC governor Berke Bakay. "In fact, as a boy growing up in Turkey, my first exposure to Phoenix was through an internationally televised Phoenix Suns game. With the NBA and Phoenix Suns reaching more than a billion people worldwide every year, updating Talking Stick Resort Arena is an investment in the City of Phoenix's global reputation."

Phoenix Rising FC fans are encouraged to share their support on social media for Talking Stick Resort Arena with Phoenix City Council members prior to tomorrow's vote.
