PHILADELPHIA (March 28, 2011) - The Philadelphia Soul announce the signing of Offensive/Defensive Linemen Jeffrey Fitzgerald (6-4, 265, Kansas State) and Nick Rossi (6-6, 295, Boston College) to the team's 2011 roster. The Soul are coming off a bye week and will be traveling to Milwaukee to face the Milwaukee Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. ET in an Eastern Division matchup.
"Jeffrey and Nick are two versatile athletes that will have a chance to make an immediate impact for us," said Soul head coach Mike Hohensee. "The bye week gave us an opportunity to re-focus. These two players complement our roster with their unique abilities and should help us become a better football team."
Fitzgerald, who enters his rookie AFL season, played under Bill Snyder (KSU) and Al Groh (UVA). In his senior season, the former Wildcat recorded 40 tackles (24 solo), 10.0 tackles for loss, 7.0 sacks (-67.0 yards), one interception, seven passes defensed, two fumble recoveries and three forced fumbles. Fitzgerald began his collegiate career at Virginia, registering 137 tackles (72 solo), 24.0 stops for loss, 12.0 sacks (-64.0 yards), four interceptions, seven passes defensed, three fumble recoveries and three forced fumbles in two seasons as a Cavalier. He also received the Bill Dudley Award as Virginia's outstanding first-year player.
Rossi, who is in his rookie AFL season, played under Tom O'Brien (2005-06), Jeff Jagodzinski (2007-08) and Frank Spaziani (2009) at Boston College. He appeared in all 13 games on special teams and the defensive line his senior season and recorded 18 tackles (10 solo) and two tackles for a loss on the year. His highlight game came against Virginia Tech when he recorded four tackles, a sack, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
