Mahoning Valley Phantoms News Release
BOARDMAN, OH (Thursday, September 11th, 2008) - The Mahoning Valley Phantoms will wrap up their preseason schedule this Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at the Ice Zone in Boardman against Detroit's Motor City Machine, with free admission to the public.
"This will be a unique opportunity for fans to get out to the Ice Zone and see the team first hand, free of charge," says Phantoms Head Coach and General Manager Bob Mainhardt, "It will let the fans make their own judgments on the talent level of this year's team."
The two teams tangled last week in Detroit, with the Phantoms coming away with a 4-2 win on the Machine's home ice. Tensions boiled over with three third period fights, which Mainhardt thinks will set up an exciting season-and preseason-series with the Detroit franchise.
"This will be our closest opponent, geographically, in the league this year," he says, "I expect a fierce rivalry from pre season throughout the year."
The game will be the Phantoms' last tune-up before they open the season next Wednesday, September 17th, against the Owatonna (MN) Express at the Sherwood NAHL Showcase in Blaine, Minnesota.
The public is invited to see this pre-season game Saturday, Sept. 13 at 3:00 p.m. at the Ice Zone in Boardman, free of charge.
