FRISCO, Texas (Thursday, April 24, 2008) - Last week, the North American Hockey League announced the schedule for the Robertson Cup Championship tournament that begins on April 30 and lasts through May 4 at the Hardees IcePlex in Chesterfield, Mo.

The Mahoning Valley Phantoms will enter the tournament for the second straight season, after making it all the way to the title game last May. The Phantoms will automatically receive the bid as the North Division representative because they are playing the St. Louis Bandits in the division finals - the Bandits receive an automatic bid as the host.

The Phantoms will get started in the National Championships next Wednesday at 3 p.m. when they go up against the South Division champions - either the Topeka Roadrunners or the Fairbanks Ice Dogs. Their best-of-five series is currently tied at 1-1.

On Thursday, Mahoning Valley will play the Bandits at 7:30 p.m., before finishing up the round-robin portion of the tournament on Fri., May 2 at 3 p.m. against the Central Division champions - either the Springfield Junior Blues or the Alexandria Blizzard. Those two are also currently tied at 1-1 in their best-of-five.

The team with the most points after the round-robin will get a bye into the Robertson Cup Championship Game where they will await the winner of the semifinal game, to be played on May 3 at 3 p.m. A new feature to this year's tournament, the semifinal will feature the second and third seeded teams. The last place team, after round-robin play, will be eliminated.

The Robertson Cup Championship game will be played at 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 4. Last season, the Bandits beat the Phantoms 8-4 for the title in Fairbanks, Alaska.

First, however, by way of a 3-0 win on Wednesday night in Game 3, the Phantoms play host to the Bandits this Friday night in Game 4 of the North Division Finals at the Ice Zone in Boardman.

The first 500 fans through the door will receive a coupon from Handel's Homemade Ice Cream. Game time is slated for 7:15 p.m. St. Louis leads the best-of-five series 2-1. Game 5, if necessary, is scheduled for an 8:15 p.m. EDT opening face-off back in St. Louis.
