Peoria Rough Riders to Open Season in Tupelo
March 18, 2005 - United Indoor Football Association (UIF) News Release
United Indoor Football has announced that the Tupelo FireAnts will host the Peoria Rough Riders on Saturday, March 26. The contest will mark the season opener for the Rough Riders of Head Coach Bruce Cowdrey and should prove to be a great UIF rivalry game as both Peoria and Tupelo are premiere indoor football programs, and both Cowdrey and Tupelo Head Coach John Fourcade have extensive indoor football experience. Cowdrey led Peoria to a league Championship in 2002 and Peoria won a conference championship in 2004, while Fourcade is a former quarterback for the University of Mississippi and New Orleans Saints. Fourcade most recently coached Columbus in 2003 and 2004. Interestingly enough, Fourcade's 2002 Florida team lost the league championship to Cowdrey's Peoria squad. The March 26th match-up will be a continuation of a long rivaly in indoor football.
Peoria was previously scheduled to open the season in Dayton, Ohio, on Thursday, March 17, but the contest between the division rivals was postponed and is being re-scheduled for a later date due to safety and compliance concerns with the Warbirds. Dayton's schedule is also to be adjusted to account for the postponement and will be announced at later date. This will be Tupelo's second home game, as they open up the season against the Lexington Horsemen on Saturday, March 19. Kick-off for all Tupelo home games is 7:30 p.m. CT.
