 Penn FC News Release
HARRISBURG, Pa. - Penn FC (1-3-4) drop its first match at home to Ottawa Fury FC (1-4-2) following an 87th minute goal by the opposition.
Ottawa turned in a strong offensive performance that featured two shots hitting the post. However, Fury FC finally found the net on a play that sparked some controversy. In the 87th minute, Ottawa earned a corner kick after Sean Lewis used his head to save a shot on a one-on-one challenge. Fury FC's corner kick drifted to the back post. The ball was headed in the air and Lewis jumped to make a save. He appeared to receive contact in his back while he was in the air, and he fell to the ground. Ottawa's Colin Falvey gathered the ball in the box and poked a shot in the back of the net as Lewis tried to recover.
Penn FC pressed on offense in search of an equalizer, but Ottawa parked the bus to prevent any significant offensive movement in their half of the field. Fury FC held on to earn their first win of the season.
In its second match in three days, with an away match against Toronto FC II looming in less than two days time, Penn FC sported a largely different roster than the one that took the field against Tampa Bay to give veteran players a rest.
The team was challenged to create the same offensive chances that it did against the Rowdies. The Blue and White did well whipping crosses into dangerous areas, but Ottawa was able to deflect or prevent scoring chances.
Penn FC nearly snuck in the go-ahead goal in the 84th minute. Jerry Ortiz sliced through the Ottawa defense and was fouled outside the box to prevent him from earning a scoring chance. Ortiz hit a driving free kick that deflected off the wall, but Ken Tribbett gathered the ball and chipped it towards the left post. The keeper challenged low as Calvin Rezende slid towards the ball to kick it. The angle closed too quickly for Rezende and the ball went just wide for a goal kick.
The Blue and White will look to rebound when it travels to Toronto FC II. The match at Monarch Park in Toronto is set to kick off at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 9. Fans can watch the match on the ESPN+ streaming platform, and 7-day free trials are available.
