Peel's triple sends series to third game

AKRON, Ohio â Juggernaut pitcher Kaci Clark allowed only hit on the night to the Racers, but Akron took full advantage to score the game-winning run in the top of the sixth inning to defeat NY/NJ by a final score of 3-1.

The win for Akron evened their series with the Juggernaut at one game apiece. The Juggernaut won game one of the series on Wednesday night by a final score of 2-0.
Pitching was again dominant for a majority of the game two with Clark going pitch-for-pitch with the Racers' Nikki Myers. Clark, a tough-luck loser, allowed only a triple to Akron Slugger Trena Peel. Clark's final line showed her allowing three total runs (two earned), three walks and five strikeouts. Myers was just as effective in the contest, as she allowed just four singles to the potent NY/NJ offense. She surrendered just one unearned run in the game, while striking out seven.
Akron's first run of the game was scored in the top of the first inning after leadoff hitter Iyhia McMichael reached first on a throwing error by Nauts shortstop Lyndsey Klein. McMichael would eventually come around to score without the aid of a hit in the inning.
The Juggernaut scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the first inning when Carri Leto came around to score on the aid of a couple of fielding miscues by the Akron Racers. Leto started the rally with an infield single to the left side, advanced to second on a throwing error by Racer shortstop Kristen Johnson and came around to score on a throwing error by catcher Jenn Poore on a steal of third base.
The run in the first inning was the only offense that Akron could come up with in the game. The Nauts threatened again in the third inning, but Gina Oaks struck out swinging with runners on first and second to end the frame.
The two teams will take the field in the deciding game of the three-game semifinal tomorrow night at 6 p.m. EDT. Brandee McArthur, who took the loss in game one of the series, is expected to take the mound for the Racers against Amanda Scott of the Juggernaut.
