PCL Annouces Players of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Pacific Coast League today announced Matt Murton of the Colorado Springs Sky Sox has been named PCL Player of the Week and Bud Norris of the Round Rock Express the PCL Pitcher of the Week for the week of June 15-21.

Murton, a native of Fort Lauderdale, Florida is hitting .414 with nine home runs and 38 RBI in 34 games with the Sky Sox. Currently he has a 29-game hitting streak that started on April 15th and incurred an interruption on April 28th when he was called up to the Colorado Rockies. Murton has hit .432 (48-for-111) during his streak with eight home runs, 11 doubles, 34 RBIs and 28 runs scored and 15 multi-hit games.

Ranked as Houston's No. 2 prospect by Baseball America prior to the 2009 season, Norris has allowed only four or more earned runs in a start just once this season. The Greebrae, California native has been tough on PCL hitters all season with a league leading 82 strikeouts in just 81.0 innings pitched for the Express. In his first start last week he tossed eight scoreless innings with six strikeouts against Nashville to earn the victory. He followed that start with another eight scoreless innings and ten strikeouts against New Orleans but took the no-decision when Round Rock won 5-4 in 11 innings.

Fans can vote online for their favorite PCL players to give them the chance to play in the 2009 Triple-A All-Star Game to be held July 15th in Portland, Oregon. All-Star ballots can be found on the official Pacific Coast League website (www.pclbaseball.com) and will conclude on Friday, June 26.
