With two games left on their season, the Buffalo Stampede are trying to pick up one more victory for their year. Unfortunately, the Halifax Rainmen weren't going to give it to them, and despite 33 points from Mike Norwood and 34 points from Corey Herring, the Stampede fell 124-105 to Halifax. Willie Hall finished with 10 assists on the night for Buffalo.

The Rainmen are going to the PBL playoffs, becoming the first Canadian team to ever reach the PBL postseason. But whether they go in as a #3 or #4 seed depended in part on a Friday night game in Barre against the Vermont Frost Heaves. The Rainmen held a 12-point lead with less than five minutes to go, but couldn't hold on - and watched as the Frost Heaves took a 107-98 triumph. Desond Ferguson's 19 points include five 3-point baskets; Gary Ervin had 18 points, including a perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line. Eric Crookshank had a double-double of 12 points and 15 rebounds, while Gary Gallimore added 13 points to the mix. John Strickland finished the night with ten rebounds.

No time to rest - the Rainmen had to regroup and travel to Buffalo for a Saturday evening matchup with the Stampede. Thanks to seven players scoring in double figures, including a 20-point, 13-assist night from Tony Bennett, the Halifax Rainmen corralled the Stampede 124-105. Greg Plummer came off the bench to score 19 points, while Desmond Ferguson put five "Moneyball" 3-pointers in the cylinder for 17 points total. Eric Crookshank and Larry Turner each had nine rebounds apiece.

With their decisive 130-87 road triumph over the Quebec Kebs Saturday night, the Cavalry are assured of not only the #1 seed in the PBL playoffs; they are one win away from finishing the year with a .900 regular season winning percentage, a feat reached only by the 2007-08 Rochester Razorsharks and the 2008-09 Battle Creek Knights. In the victory, Jamaal Davis led with a double-double of 23 points and 13 rebounds; while Tim Ellis had a double-double of 14 points and 12 boards. DeAnthony Bowden had 17 points; while Oliver Miller had three massive blocked shots for Lawton-Fort Sill.

It may have taken most of the season, but the Quebec Kebs have a two-game winning streak, after defeating the Maryland GreenHawks 110-101 Friday night at Laval University. PBL All-Star Samuel Audet-Sow scored 26 points to lead his mates on the scoreboard; Jamaal Wise had 23 points and 16 rebounds for a double-double. Jean-Philippe Morin's 15 points and 14 from Marlon Pompey also helped the Kebs win Friday night.

The winning streak ended, however, the next day. Lawton-Fort Sill came to PEPS and dished out a 130-87 win over Quebec, despite a valiant 24-point effort from Brandon Morris, 18 points from Louis-Patrick Levros, and 11 points from Jean-Philippe Morin.

With four and a half minutes left, Vermont was down by twelve points in a Friday night battle in Barre against the Halifax Rainmen. Then they went on an amazing 16-0 run, with everything from 3-pointers to circus shots falling through the net. Vermont took the victory over Halifax 107-98, giving the Frost Heaves the postseason tiebreaker over the Rainmen (in three games between these two teams, Vermont has won twice). VERMONT'S DWUAN RICE NAMED PLAYER OF THE WEEK

The Premier Basketball League is pleased to announce that Vermont Frost Heaves point guard Dwuan Rice has been named Player of the Week for the week ending April 4, 2010. This is the third time a Vermont Frost Heaves player has won this award in the 2009-10 season; Rice joins Troy Jackson and Marshall Brown in being so honored. Rice was named Player of the Week after his valiant 20-point effort in a Friday night game against the Halifax Rainmen; it was Rice, a 5'11" 170-pound point guard from Cal-Bakersfield, who helped guide Vermont from a 14-point deficit, with less than four minutes in the game, to an 18-0 scoring run - of which he scored 14 of those points during that run - and the eventual victory.
