A two-game weekend homestand for the Buffalo Stampede at the Koessler Center offered the squad a new chance to finish the season on a positive note. First up was a Friday night battle with the Puerto Rico Capitanes, in which the Stamps actually kept pace with the Caps, only to fail in the final minutes 111-85. Corey Herring was the top scorer for the Stampede, finishing with 24 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double, while new signee Frank Turner added 22.

With every game coming down to the wire, the Halifax Rainmen traveled to Blue Cross Arena for a Saturday afternoon contest with the Rochester Razorsharks. But despite 33 points from Tony Bennett, and a 19-point, 20-board effort by Eric Crookshank, the Rainmen couldn't hold off the surging Sharks, and lost their third overtime game of the season, a 115-113 loss. Eric Gilchrese added 14 points, while Desmond Ferguson scored 13 points in the Halifax loss.

Of the ten players who suited up in Lawton-Fort Sill's 164-96 clobbering of the Buffalo Stampede, nine of them scored in double figures. Rashad Woods' 25 points included several scintillating dunks; Elvin Mims (16 pts, 14 rebs) and Shaun Fountain (17 pts, 12 assists) scored double-doubles. Eddie Smith and Tim Ellis scored 18 points apiece; while Brandon Dean also put 17 points on the scoreboard.

As their season winds to a close, the Manchester Millrats tried to salvage a win on the road in Maryland against the GreenHawks on Friday night. But despite the Millrats' starting five all finishing with double-doubles, the Rats were captured by the Hawks 112-108. Stanley Ocitti had 25 points and 12 rebounds; while Charles Bronson finished with 21 points and 11 boards. Anthony Anderson's 12 points were augmented with 11 assists.

In the first game of a two-game weekend contest, the Maryland GreenHawks welcomed the Manchester Millrats to a game at Georgetown Prep Friday night. The score bounced back and forth between the two teams, until Maryland pulled out a 112-108 win, giving head coach Chad Warren his first PBL victory. Byron Mouton had 25 points in the win, while Scooter Sherrill finished with 23 points. Ray Cunningham had a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Unfortunately, the GreenHawks weren't able to continue this winning momentum in a matchup against the Puerto Rico Capitanes in Gaithersburg, Md. In the 124-117 loss, Scooter Sherrill finished with 27 points and 11 assists; Derick Payne added 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Ray Cunningham added 14 points and 12 boards to the stat book.

The Puerto Rico Capitanes welcomed both the signing of Courtney Sims and the return of Angelo Reyes to their lineup. With those weapons, the Capitanes picked up two wins this weekend in the PBL. In Buffalo, the Capitanes took care of the Buffalo Stampede with a 111-85 win. Courtney Sims, in his first PBL game with the Capitanes, had 19 rebounds and 18 points, leading his mates in both statistical categories. Sims was one of six Capitanes to score in double figures, joining Omar Alvarado (15 pts), Elias Ayuso (14 pts), David Cortes (13 pts), Angelo Reyes (12 pts) and Jose Rosario (10 pts).
The Capitanes continued their strong run with a Saturday night 124-117 triumph over the Maryland GreenHawks in Gathersburg, Md. Sims had another double-double weekend, putting together 27 points and pulling down 17 rebounds, his second straight double-double. David Cortes added 22 points, while Andres Rodriguez had a team-high 13 assists to secure the Puerto Rico victory.

The Quebec Kebs, resigned to the role of playoff spoilers, tried to stop the Vermont Frost Heaves on Friday night at PEPS. Even with 24 points from Samuel Audet-Sow, 22 points from Jamaal Wise, and an 18-point 10-rebound double-double from Brandon Morris, the Kebs could not surpass the Heaves, and fell 103-88.

With a playoff berth within their grasp, the Rochester Razorsharks defeated the Halifax Rainmen 115-113 in overtime Saturday afternoon. Keith Friel's 24 points included five 3-pointers, while Jerice Crouch added 19 points in the Rochester victory. Marlin Johnson pulled down eight rebounds; each rebound was keyed to a donation for a charity for breast cancer research. Derik Hollyfield added 16 points, while Lincoln Smith had 12 points in the win.

As the season began, the Vermont Frost Heaves had an abysmal 0-4 record and had just fired their head coach. Now, after a 103-88 Friday night road win over Quebec, Vermont's playoff hopes are still alive. Marshall Brown was one of seven different Frost Heaves to score in double figures, his 22 points led all of the Green Mountain Crew in scoring. Aaron Cook had 18 points, while Dwuan Rice finished with a double-double of 11 boards and 11 points.

PUERTO RICO'S COURTNEY SIMS NAMED PLAYER OF THE WEEK
The Premier Basketball League is pleased to announce that Courtney Sims of the Puerto Rico Capitanes is the PBL Player of the Week for the week ending March 14, 2010. Sims joins fellow Capitanes David Cortes and Angelo Reyes as having earned Player of the Week honors this season. Sims averaged a double-double in two wins for the Capitanes this weekend; in a Friday night 111-85 win over the Buffalo Stampede in Western New York, Sims scored 18 points and pulled down 19 rebounds. On Saturday night, as the Capitanes defeated the Maryland GreenHawks 124-117, Sims scored 27 points and captured 17 rebounds.
