Sockers on Verge of US Record Winning Streak
11/13/12 - The San Diego Sockers are one win away from tying the US Pro Team Sports record for longest winning streak following their 11-5 win over Real Phoenix Saturday. The win gave the Sockers 39 straight victories.
The Sockers haven't lost since 12/27/10, a 9-8 overtime loss to the California Cougars.
San Diego heads to Arizona on November 17 to play a Storm team that just ended a 16-game losing streak going back to last season. The Storm built a 6-1 lead against the Anaheim Bolts and held off several rallies to come away with a 14-13 win.
If the Sockers beat the Storm, they can go for their record-breaking 41st straight win on November 23 at home against Toros Mexico. The current record is held by indoor football's Sioux Falls Storm, who won 40 in a row from 2005 to 2008.
Player of the Week
Ante Cop, Rockford Rampage
The veteran goalkeeper playing his first season in the PASL has led the Rampage to a 3-0 start this season. Over the weekend Cop went 2-0 with a 4.00 GAA and 27 saves. Cop stymied the Cincinnati Kings, 4-1. In that game the teams combined to tie the PASL record for lowest scoring game, even though the Rampage scored two empty net goals to pad the score. Last year all season only one team was held to as few as one goal in a game, while Cop has already done that twice in three starts.

Sockers Streaks at 26, 39
San Diego's regular season winning streak stands at 26. San Diego also improved to 26-0 at home during the regular season. Including playoffs, US Open games, and the FIFRA Club Championships, the Sockers have won 39 in a row, two short of the US Pro Team Sports record of 40 set by the indoor football Sioux Falls Storm in 2008.
Kafedzic Trick
If three goals is a hat trick, what do you call it when a player scores six goals in a loss? Perhaps a Kafedzic Trick. Last year on 11/5/11 Elvir Kafedzic of the Illinois Piasa scored six goals, but his team lost 11-9. Almost a year to the date, Kafedzic again scored six goals, but this time it resulted in a 16-8 loss to the Chicago Mustangs.
Three More Home Openers
The expanded PASL is still getting to know what it feels like to be a 19-team league. Despite two weeks of action, three teams - the Texas Strikers, Rio Grande Flash, and Tacoma Stars -- have yet to kick a ball. That ends this week when the Strikers play at Rio Grande Valley and the Stars host the Turlock Express. The Harrisburg Heat will also hold their home opener. Rockford will open at home on 11/24 and Texas will be the last to bow at home, raising the curtain on 12/1.
