Stockton Cougars--Western Division Champions

2/24/09 - It took the highest scoring game in PASL-Pro's brief history to elevate the Stockton Cougars to their first ever division championship. The fourth-year club clinched the Western Division title by beating second place Denver 18-12 at Parker Fieldhouse.

Bernie Lilavois tied his own league record with six goals and set a new record with nine points adding three assists. Lilavois has taken his game to a new level with nine goals and eight assists in his last two games.

Stockton closes out the regular season on Thursday with Brian Farber Bobblehead Night against Wenatchee. Then on Sunday they turn their attention to the Tacoma Stars in the semifinals of the US Open.

PASL-Pro League Action

The fireworks weren't all in Denver. Canada proved to be too cold for the Wenatchee Fire, who were on the dubious end of another league record. On Sunday night, with a depleted roster, they suffered a shocking 22-2 loss to Calgary, the same team that had to rally just to beat them 7-6 on January 4. The next night, even more banged up, they lost to Saskatoon 18-2. Coupled with Stockton's win, it was the first, second, and third time a team scored more than 16 goals in a PASL regular season game involving two pro teams. Cincinnati had 19 goals in a game, but it came at the expense of the PASL-Premier West Virginia Quantum Force.

KICK STARTERS - Conversations you should be having about the PASL-Pro

Garth Archibald, Denver Dynamite

The former Cougar showed his old team he has learned a thing or two since he left to sign with the Dynamite. Archibald had five goals and three assists. His first quarter natural hat trick gave Denver a 3-0 lead. The 24-year old now has 18 goals and seven assists in 11 games.

Kyle Yamada, Calgary United

Calgary and Saskatoon had such a good weekend against Wenatchee it may have even given the Canadian Dollar a boost against US currency. Several players had big nights, but none bigger than Yamada's three goals and five assists. The 25-year old represented Canada in the 2006 Beach Soccer World Cup.

Copa America Championship

A truncated Copa America competition has come down to the Monterrey La Raza and Saskatoon Accelerators at Arena Monterrey on Thursday. It is believed to be the first match between professional arena teams from Canada and Mexico. The Accelerators will be charged with handing Monterrey its first loss after La Raza went 5-0 against PASL-Pro teams this year.

The Week Ahead

Calgary and Edmonton have a doubleheader at Servus Place that could decide the CMISL championship. Calgary needs a sweep to have a realistic chance of advancing, but there is still a scenario that could see all three Canadian teams finish in a three-way tie.
