Eastern Division, Lower Playoff Seeds Still Up For Grabs

2/14/12 - Two wins apiece by the Anaheim Bolts and Kansas Magic this weekend have added a great deal of intrigue to the final two weeks of the season.

The San Diego Sockers have long clinched the Western Division title, but three teams -- the Bolts (6-7), Turlok Express (9-5) and Revolucion Tijuana (8-5) -- remain alive for the last two division playoff spots. Turlock can lock up a slot by beating Tijuana on Friday. Tijuana could alternately clinch by beating Turlock. Anaheim needs to beat Tijuana on Sunday to stay alive.

In the Eastern Division the Detroit Waza, Louisville Lightning and Kansas Magic have clinched playoff spots, while the Cincinnati Kings and Illinois Piasa have an eye on the fourth seed. The Lightning can still win the Eastern Division, but they would need to beat Detroit and they also need Cincinnati to beat Detroit.

If Cincinnati beats Detroit it will assure their place as the fourth seed, but if they lose Illinois will advance via the tiebreaker.

Player of the Week

Matt Germain, Kansas Magic

Germain, 23, didn't have the flashiest week, but he helped the Magic end a four-game losing streak and clinch a playoff spot with two wins this past weekend. The Magic's season leader with 14 goals and 20 points had a goal in their 8-2 win over Illinois and three goals and an assist in Sunday's big 11-7 win over Detroit. Germain, who has a six-game point scoring streak, also got the endorsement of Magic owner BJ Latas who Tweeted, "Matt Germain for player of the week!! Absolutely a great game from him."

Cincinnati Takes on US Open This Week, Playoff Fight Next

A 7-6 win over Detroit put the Kings in the Semifinals of the US Open and they will need to beat Detroit again on 2/25 to qualify for the playoffs. In the meantime, the Kings will host Vitesse Dallas on Friday for a chance to meet the Sockers in the US Open Final.

Sockers Streaks at 22, 32

San Diego's regular season winning streak stretched to 22 with an easy 13-1 win over Arizona. San Diego can wrap up their first perfect season with two more wins. The Sockers travel to 9-5 Turlock on February 24, and come back home to face 3-9 Tacoma on February 25. Including playoffs, US Open games, and the FIFRA Club Championships, the Sockers have won 32 in a row.

Storm Also Streak Into Record Books

The Arizona Storm achieved a dubious distinction with their 15th straight loss. Arizona lost both games with Revolucion Tijuana and San Diego this weekend to finish their first PASL season 1-15. On Friday the Storm became the first PASL team this year to only score one goal and on Saturday they again could only muster a single tally.
