PASL Weekly - Week 1

Published on November 9, 2011 under Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL) News Release

Turlock, Detroit Hit the Ground Gunning

11/8/11 - Give little hope of succeeding competitively in their maiden professional season, the Turlock Express confounded experts by sweeping the Tacoma Stars in two games at Turlock Indoor Soccer.

Led by a league-high nine points from Jorge Quiroz and a hat trick from Adrian Gutierrez (Saturday), the Express defeated Tacoma 8-5 and 7-3 in a battle of two former PASL-Premier teams who have turned professional.

The Detroit Waza took their new and improved roster for a spin and the results were impressive. Detroit scored 10 consecutive goals to take out the Ohio Vortex 11-3 and then came home to rout the Louisville Lightning, 9-3.

Player of the Week

Jorge Quiroz, Turlock Express

The flashy former LMFR star headlines the Express roster and he quickly made an impact scoring the first two goals of the game and finishing with three goals and two assists in his debut. The next night he switched into playmaking mode and collected four assists. Quiroz is making his PASL debut, but he has played against PASL teams in the North American Championships as a member of Tigres Dorados de Oaxaca and Sidekicks Mexico.

Kick Starters - Conversations you should be having about the PASL-Pro

Waza Serve Notice

Detroit fortified their lineup in the offseason with the free agent additions of Miki Djerisilo (Chicago Riot), who returns after a brief stint with Waza last year, Worteh Sampson and Zack Wilkes (Baltimore Blast) and Ryan Mack (Milwaukee Wave). Add them to Dominic Scicluna and Costea Decu and promising young goalkeeper Vito Lonigro and Detroit looks like a strong challenger to Cincinnati's three year grip on the Eastern Division. Djerisilo was a leading candidate for Player of the Week with four goals and four assists last weekend.

Kafedzic Returns, but Six Goal Effort Not Enough for Piasa

Elvir Kafedzic (St. Louis Illusion) returned to the PASL with a rousing six-goal game, but it wasn't enough to lift the Illinois Piasa over the expansion Kansas Magic. The Piasa drew a franchise record 658 to their first game at The Sports Academy. Bryan Williams had a hat trick for Kansas and he Randall Porter and Kyle Brown each had four points.

Pointstreak Goes Live Fans of the PASL were treated to the first weekend of action through the eyes of Pointstreak's real-time scorekeeping software. The games served as a live test for the PASL and, while there are still some kinks to be worked out, the response was overwhelmingly positive.

PASLsoccer.com Goes Live As Well

Pointstreak has also developed an all new website for the PASL at the new domainwww.paslsoccer.com. The new site embeds Pointstreak statistics and their live scoreboard. The old domain will be kept active to serve the needs of the PASL-Premier.
