Calgary United New Giant Killers
1/20/10 - The Calgary United of the Canadian Major Indoor Soccer League, sister league of the PASL-Pro, have only played three games and have only breached the net 13 times this year, but they are the pesky giant killers of the moment.
On January 9 they beat the San Diego Sockers 6-4. It remains the 10-1 Sockers only loss of the season. Last Saturday they beat the defending CMISL champion Edmonton Drillers, 4-2.
The win got King Kong off the backs of the United players. Not only had they lost the previous six meetings with Edmonton, but every loss was by just one goal.
Nic Reyes, who returned from injury Saturday, expressed relief for ending the streak and praised the play of new goalkeeper Marcel Galaskiewicz, who so far has been an improvement over Bryan Klaus. That is no small compliment as Klaus was named All-League Second Team in 2008/09.
PASL-Pro Game Action
The Ohio Vortex had a weekend to make the entire expansion organization feel good about itself. Ohio closed out its home schedule with an 8-7 win over Detroit followed by a 12-9 win over Louisville, giving their fans warm memories and a burning desire for more even though the next Vortex home game likely isn't until November. The 4-5 Vortex now have the unenviable task of closing out the season on a seven-game road trip.

Allen Eller, Ohio Vortex
Eller, the longtime indoor veteran, easily had the best week of any player with an amazing 10 goals (and an assist) in two games, including a six-spot on the Lightning. His six goals tied the league record for goals scored against a PASL-Pro team, not to mention it complements his jersey number: 66.
Waza Woes
The opposite of Ohio's weekend went to Detroit who lost two road games, 8-7 to Ohio and 7-6 to Louisville. Against Ohio they let a late one goal lead slip away, and against Louisville they trailed 6-1 after three and came maybe within a minute of a dramatic comeback. Instead, Detroit's loss to the Lightning eliminated last year's runner up from the US Open and elevated Louisville into the Semifinals.
21 Goal Salute
Three games last weekend featured a dazzling display of 21 goals scored. Ohio outslugged Louisville 12-9, San Diego doubled up Texas 14-7, and Prince George and Wenatchee came out with guns blazing, but it was Wenatchee still standing after a shootout goal with 54 seconds left in the game gave them an 11-10 win.
