Down the Stretch They Come
3/3/09 - Three teams have qualified for the PASL-Pro Championship Weekend March 13-15 in Stockton, but three slots still remain undecided heading into the regular season's final week.
Western Division Champion Stockton and Eastern Division Champion Cincinnati are in. Tigres Dorados MRCI de Oaxaca won the LMFR Central Division. Still to be decided are the LMFR Baja Division, the PASL-Pro wildcard, and the CMISL Canadian Division.
Edmonton will face Calgary for the CMISL Championship on March 8 and the winner will advance to Stockton. St. Louis, Denver, and Texas are all alive for the wildcard spot and St. Louis would advance by winning their final two games.
PASL-Pro League Action
PASL-Pro games have been high scoring, but the last two weeks have been off the charts. Stockton put up 19 goals on Wenatchee. Detroit beat Windsor 13-9. Cincinnati took out Derby City 16-5. Texas beat Tyler 15-13 and Denver topped them all besting Golden 22-9.
KICK STARTERS - Conversations you should be having about the PASL-Pro
Copa America
The Monterrey La Raza are the first champions of the Copa America, comfortably beating Saskatoon 11-3. The loss was doubly painful for the Accelerators because it also eliminated them from postseason contention.
US Open
The Stockton Cougars advanced to the final of the US Open by taking down Greg Howes and the Tacoma Stars 11-8 in a spirited match. Tacoma led 2-0, but trailed 7-4 at the half. The Cougars opened a 10-4 lead before Tacoma cut it to 10-7, but the Stars magical run ended in the semifinals. Tacoma will now head to Las Vegas for the PASL-Premier National Championships.
Jay Hamilton and Poncho Puente, Denver Dynamite
Hamilton, a member of the USNAST, set a new PASL-Pro record with seven goals and 4 assists against the Golden Strikers. Puente was right behind him with six goals and three assists. Hamilton's new record will stand, but with an asterisk because it was played against a PASL-Premier opponent.
The Week Ahead
The games won't mean anything to Calgary and Edmonton, but they mean everything to Texas who needs to win their last three games in the most grueling stretch on anyone's schedule. The Outlaws, will fly to Edmonton, drive to Calgary and race home in time for their match against Alamo SC, their third game in as many days.
